![]() Fix My Golf SliceLearning how to fix a golf slice is perhaps one of the most frustrating things to go through in golf. That is because to fix it, we must make corrections to our swing that are counter-intuitive at first glance. This page will take a look at one of the most common reasons for a slice and give you a single key tip to correct and straighten out your slice. You'll soon see that although it is frustrating, it's really not too hard to fix a golf slice! Fix #1) Fix A Golf Slice With Your GRIP![]() The weak grip at ADDRESS of the ball... ![]() ...becomes a "neutral" grip at IMPACT
<--The weak grip at address, unconsciously becomes a neutral grip at impact-->
Okay, let's discuss these two pictures... Notice in the picture of the weak grip (left picture), the hands are turned over to the golfers left just a tad. "So what?" you might ask. Well, whether we like it or not, at impact our grip tends to be looking more like the picture of the neutral grip (right picture). This is just a fact. There is a reason why the neutral grip is called a neutral grip, because that is the natural impact position of most golfers. Okay, okay, I know EVERY golfer has a different impact hand position, but these pictures illustrate exactly what is happening to most slicers of the ball. What Happens To The Club Face In These Two Pictures? So now think about it. If you grip the club with the "weak" grip illustrated above, and at impact your hands are in the "neutral" position, which way is the club face pointed? To the Right!! This is either going to make your ball go straight right, or impart right hand spin on the ball. Right? ...maybe I should say, Correct? So The Golf Slice Fix Is?Turn your hands at address of the ball more to the "neutral" position. That means the V in between the right thumb and fore finger pointing to your right shoulder. The left hand is in a position to show you 2 1/2 knuckles. The V on the left hand will more or less be pointed to your left shoulder or more towards the center of your chest. Now the club won't rotate to the right at impact. It will come through at the same position it was in at address! This is one of the simplest fixes that WORKS. This is such a simple swing tip that all good golfers know. If a tour player wants to play a little cut, often they will just weaken their grip, and now they know the ball will go to the right. It has to. The Other Reason A Slice Occurs? Swing Path. You might find by trying the above tip that all of a sudden your slice is fixed. But if it isn't, that doesn't mean to disregard the tip. A neutral grip is extremely important. You may just also have a common problem of cutting accross the target line of the ball from outside to in. Take Your Game To The Next LevelSo what happens when you fix the slice? There is always the next fundamental problem that will arise. It is an excellent idea to commit yourself to learning all the fundamentals of the golf game so that each shot you face, you know exactly what to do. A good recommendation is to use an at home golf instruction system, such as "The Simple Swing" by David Nevogt, to give you the same solid foundation of golf knowledge that ALL tour players use. Or How About Using A Swing Trainer To Straighten Your Shots?Using a golf swing trainer is just as valuable as taking a dozen golf lessons. This is because most of these swing trainers are designed to force you into the correct swing positions to hit the ball straighter and longer. |
